A Thousand Splendid Suns

Hosseini has written another captivating story (IMO better than the first) - this time of 2 inspirational women living in modern-day Afghanistan before, during and just after 9/11. Not only did he provide some very interesting, and often heartbreaking, insight into the lives and ordeals of modern Afghani women and the country as a whole, but he captured my heart in the process. While I can't say I was moved to tears, my heart did often break for these women and I was - on a few occasions - moved to prayer. Through the daily grind of mothering 3 young daughters, remembering what Laila endured just to see hers, really brings my "troubles" into a whole different perspective. As a daughter, sister, mother and woman, I cherish this book.

Overall rating: LOVE IT!

  1. Hi, Lauren! I'm a new follower thanks to your cousin Monica, one of my favorite people on the planet. I, too, blog about books, though not often enough. Anyway, I borrowed this book from Monica last year and it was SO amazing. I definitely agree that it's better than Hosseini's first. It really makes you aware of how blessed we are to be American women and how vital it is to remember oppressed women around the world, especially in the volatile Middle East, in our prayer time. Keep the posts coming! I love to see what books are keeping others reading and thinking :)
